Roast Beef Crock Pot Recipe With Beef Broth
04/18/2012
It would be very helpful and courteous to review a recipe made EXACTLY the way it is written. Information technology is non benign at all to read how you rated your own recipes using another person's name. Marie, your recipe fabricated as written, is fantabulous. Thank you!

THIS IS AWESOME. Swain and I couldn't believe it! I modified the recipe based on other people'southward comments. Everyone was maxim to add Montreal Steak Seasoning, which I didn't accept. So I looked it upwardly and information technology's basically comprised of pepper, salt, and paprica. For the rub i combined i Tbsp each of kosher common salt, crushed peppercorns (i crushed), and paprika. I besides added virtually 1 tsp. of garlic pulverization. This I rubbed on the meat and sprayed a little olive oil over top. To the pot, i added three large chopped carrots, vi or so small red potatoes (chopped), an onion, and one-half a container of small fresh mushrooms. Additionally, I added 2 bay leaves, about a tsp. of worshire sauce, and the onion soup mix along with the water. Didn't have celery. SUPER SPICE-A-RIFIC!!! Bask!

I take cooked a lot of roast in my twenty-four hour period and this is the Just time information technology has come out perfect! I didn't add any vegetables with it except for cutting an onion in half and setting it on pinnacle of the roast for the final 3 hours of cooking time. I made mashed potatoes and green beans separate, simply don't like my potatoes to taste like anything except potatoes. I besides whisked two teaspoons of cornstarch with ane/2 cup water and added to the au jus that I transfered to a sausepan. I boiled the au jus mixture for about v minutes, whisking oft, for a wonderful dark-brown gravy. I was tempted to not cook it as long as the recipe calls for, but please merely allow it cook and keep check on the liquid level. Roast cooked this way only melts in your mouth! Thanks for sharing your talent!

why do people take a recipe and turn it into another totally differtn recipe using it as a review? Just create a new recipe.

This was fabulous. I took a few reviewers advice and soaked the roast in ruby-red vino vinegar over nighttime. I made a rub with pepper, common salt, lemon pepper and freshly minced garlic and then browned the roast on all sides. I was using my female parent-in-law's roaster and information technology didn't take depression, med and high so I prepare information technology to virtually 200 degrees for 8.v hours. I added the onion soup mix, some onion, lots of garlic, carrots, some celery we needed to go rid of and ii potatoes. We served information technology with Sky High Yorkshire Pudding (allrecipes.com) which was great! We likewise had garlic mashed potatoes and an piece of cake greenish salad. This was an AT recipe and we'll use it again!

Great recipe, but I browned the meat on all sides afterwards seasoning the roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning prior to putting it in the slow cooker. This added great depth of flavor to the meat and the finished gravy. I omitted the potatoes from the slow cooker, and oven roasted them instead with olive oil, salt/pepper and whole garlic cloves during the concluding hour of cooking the roast. A crispy dissimilarity to the luscious gravy. My family loved this meal!
12/05/2003
Very, very skillful--the simply matter I did different is added a couple beef bouillon cubes and more than water and then that I could make lots of gravy. I even chopped upwardly the left over roast put it back in the slow cooker and made a stew with information technology--it was great! Give thanks you Marie!
08/12/2011
I followed the recipe exactly and was a bit disappointed. I had high hopes starting out just the end result was rather bland. Don't get me wrong, the meat was squeamish and tender, the veggies yummy (a little mushy, but a skillful mushy), and there was plenty of gravy. However it needed flavour, too searing the meat with common salt and pepper didn't practise anything for it. What I would do next time is sear the meat with Worcestershire, olive oil, and a piffling butter. And so later I put the meat into the crock-pot with veggies on top of the meat. I would deglaze the pan with a mix of either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon and beefiness stock. And so I would pour the liquid with pan drippings into the crock-pot. I'm not certain if I would use the onion soup mix or not, I retrieve that would depend on the users personal preference.

Really enjoyed this, my construction working fiance & his friends practically inhaled this! I did replace the h2o with beer and added a lilliputian beef boullion... my bloke was overjoyed to find a new way to get beer into his system and it gave it an astonishing flavor! There were no leftovers at all.
09/16/2008
I used this as a starting betoken to learning how to brand a bang-up roast. The first time I followed the recipe. The 2nd time I tweaked it subsequently reading the reviews. At present, I have created a masterpiece. This is how I practise it:Make sure you utilise a Chuck roast get-go of all. Then, chocolate-brown the meat with salt, pepper, garlic/onion as desired. Then, place in slow cooker. Deglaze the pan with a footling beefiness broth and then add it and addtional can to wearisome cooker (total ii cans of beef broth). Cascade ane envelope of dry out onion soup mix on meridian, and i tBLsp of Worceshire sauce on top of the meat. Cook on low for 8hrs. After 6 hrs. add quartered cerise potatoes and carrots to the slow cooker. When washed it will exist falling apart and so remove from slow cooker carefully. Make gravy past using broth and flour/cornstarch/h2o mixture and heating to just humid in divide saucepan stirring constantly till desired thickness is acheived. Yum!
04/28/2013
To all the reviewers that said "It was delicious, Only I modified the recipe by calculation this or changing this". Once you change anything nigh an original recipe, you are no longer cooking the recipe merely a new recipe that will taste zero like that ane.
09/29/2008
For those of y'all that want a thicker gravy, add flour and onion (for flavour) when you lot are browning the meat. Browning the meat gives information technology a overnice colour and at that place will be no additional steps at the end for a thicker gravy. I notice that beef broth gives a "tinny" gustation. Using chicken broth lets the taste of the beef smoothen through. I apply chicken broth along with a nice dry red wine. Recall that when adding wine, do not add together a vino that is too fruity or has been "oaked" (normally older wines). The long cooking time will concentrate any fruit, oak or other flavors that the vino has. Also when adding vegetables, add them almost halfway through the cooking time and NOT in the beginning. Delicious!

Fall apart TENDER! I've been making this recipe for many years (before this was even added). There's no demand to brown roast first! No need for the salt! THE ONION SOUP MIX HAS ENOUGH SALT IN It Lone! Listen- Just throw the roast in the crock, just identify carrots around information technology, (Use the cut upwards potatoes for mashed, it only goes much better with the tender roast!)encompass top of roast with onion soup mix and so TOP WITH CREAM OF MUSHROOM SOUP. Yous'll see it'due south only first-class!
04/15/2009
In combination of several suggestions in the reviews, this was but the Nearly DELICIOUS AND TENDER roast I take always tasted (it was also my first fourth dimension making ane)! Here's what I did... I sliced a two½ lb boneless beef chuck pot roast into 4 large serving pieces. It didn't have much fat and then no trimming was necessary. In a deep dish, I rubbed all sides with steak seasoning, fresh ground blackness pepper, coarse kosher common salt, and about two+ tablespoons set-to-utilise minced garlic then poured about 1+ tablespoon balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce on top turning the meat to coat. While that sat, I sliced upwards a xanthous onion and so browned the meat on all sides with the onion in actress virgin olive oil. Transferred the meat (including all the juices in the pan) to my wearisome cooker, added 1 loving cup beefiness broth, 1+ tablespoon minced garlic, ¼ packet of onion soup mix (leftover from making dip), fresh footing pepper, garlic salt, oregano, marjoram, thyme, and paprika. Covered and ready to depression for 6-viii hours. But well-nigh two hours before information technology was done, I added whole baby carrots, chunks of celery, ruby onion, and mushrooms. Instead of adding potatoes, I made mashed potatoes and brown gravy from the juices. The original recipe is a adept "base". Only exist artistic and utilise your spices!
03/17/2011
I have prepared my pot roasts this way quite a few times now, and am finally getting around to reviewing the recipe! Sometimes I add together a teaspoon or ii of Meliorate than Bouillon beef base, a clove or two of minced garlic, or utilise beef broth rather than water, but the basic recipe always remains the same, and e'er turns out delicious. I had planned on making this today, actually. I bought my beef in majority from a local farmer who raises grass-fed cows for the first time always, and was so excited to pop my beginning grass-fed roast into the crock pot this morning time! I defrosted information technology, unwrapped information technology, and and then realized it was actually a seven-bone chuck roast. Not a boneless chuck roast. I had already defrosted it, then I went ahead and browned information technology, then tried to stuff it in my crock pot. No such luck. It wasn't going to fit. Then, it sat in my fridge in my covered roasting pan "marinating" in the onion soup mix and h2o all solar day while I did some inquiry on how to melt a vii-bone roast in the oven. Simply in case anyone wants to utilize this type of cut, or finds themselves in a similar demark, here'southward what I did: broil covered at 280 for 4 hours, adding the veggies at the last hour. The result was fall-off-the-bone, slice-with-a-fork, melt in your mouth tender and admittedly delicious! Crock pot is good, just this method produced a roast equally every bit adept. The next "variation" I'm going to try is to make my own onion soup mix from a recipe likewise here on AllRecipes. Can't wait!
02/15/2011
Great base recipe! I took the communication of others and browned my meat in olive oil only first I rubbed it with Montreal Steak Seasoning on all sides. I used a 1lb bag of carrots and about five red potatoes - skins left on, whole onion - sliced, and 2 stalks of celery. I used ii cups of water and boiled it on stove with two beef boullion cubes. I added the onion soup mix to the humid beef broth and poured mixture over meat and veggies in crock pot. I also added almost 1/4C worcestershire sauce. I added some garlice pepper & garlic table salt to the crock pot. Cooked on low for 9 hours and meat was falling autonomously! I removed the roast from the crock pot and cut it up so added corn starch mixed with cold water to the crock pot to thicken up the juices into a gravy. Everything was perfect!!
06/30/2010
calculation my 2 cents! I did change it based on other reviews...2 pkgs of o.s.m instead of 1, instead of water I used a one-half loving cup of beefiness broth and a half cup cooking wine, and I besides threw in a can of cream of mush. soup....I know the indicate is to get away from a soup mix (foam soup that is) merely I thought it was the best roast that I have e'er fabricated!!! Oh 1 more than thing...I omited the potatoes and made mashed instead! I know that people sometimes accept something to say almost people rating a recipe afterward they accept added thier own tweeks, simply isint it what its kind of about?? getting ideas from others and tweeking them to suit our ain gustation? I d k...But maxim give this a try! It is awesome! My veggies were perfectly cooked every bit directed in the recipe!
12/26/2010
MMM.... MMM.... MMM.... yummy! Yep that sum's it up. Stop reading all the reviews and just endeavour it... your gonna love it.
09/26/2007
This is an old standby at my business firm. my mother made this many times while I was growing upwardly, and it was one of my favorite meals. My husband now loves this pot roast! I don't always brown the roast first, depending on how rushed I am that morning. The concluding time I fabricated this, I peeled and sliced the potatoes the night earlier and stored them in a ziplock bag with h2o. I placed the raw beefiness, seasonings, and onions in a crockpot liner sealed with a twist tie and popped information technology in the fridge. The side by side morning, I simply had to untie the crockpot liner and place it in the pot. I tuckered the potatoes and opened a bag of peeled baby carrots to add to the pot. Like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious!
10/27/2007
Used a 3.5lb rump roast instead and information technology worked out amazingly!! The meat simply brutal apart and was total of flavour. I did modify the recipie as others suggested. Seasoned the beef with ground pepper & garlic salt. Added a tin can of beef broth and a few dashes of worcestershire sauce to recipe. I also added mushrooms during final iv hours of cooking. At the end, took out all the veg and thickend the sauce with flour. Used more than potatoes so what recipe called for and omitted the celery. Best roast I ever made!! Very tastey.
10/xiv/2005
This is a staple in my house...we Beloved information technology! I use garlic common salt and pepper, and Lipton Beefy Onion soup mix. I also use baby carrots and sugariness potatoes instead of regular potatoes. I add a can of beef broth to ensure there is plenty liquid to cover the meat. Cooks on Low for 10-12 hrs, and is just perfect! I make "pot roast burritos" with the leftovers...hubby loves those! :) An Piece of cake, no-hassle, tasty pot roast!!! *note - shut all of your chamber doors when you plough on the crock or else your rooms will smell like pot roast for days...)
x/28/2007
I accept been doing pot roast similar this for years. The bonus is, make an extra roast at the same fourth dimension, or use leftover roast and broth left in cooker for beef and noodles, or chop leftover beef and veggies ad back to broth, add together frozen mixed veggies, chopped cabbage, and a little V8 juice and you accept delicious homemade beef vegetable soup!!!!!!!!!
01/21/2010
WOW!!! Let me tell you, I have tried to make pot roast several times already but I gave upwards considering the meat ended up being dry. I used stewing beef, rump roast, and other cuts. Now I know You lot MUST Utilise CHUCK ROAST...that's what makes this recipe super! I took the advice of other reviewers and rubbed the meat with Montreal Seasoning but I did not brown it--just put it in the crockpot. I besides used a can of beefiness broth instead of water. I added vegetables one-half way through and used reddish potatoes because it's not every bit starchy as white. My son said the beef just melts in your mouth! Tasty, delicious and great comfort food! I've always wanted a good beef roast/stew recipe and now I have it! Thank Yous, Marie, for sharing and telling us to apply the right cut of beef!

I was feeling a lilliputian fifty's homey and wanted to feed my family something lumberjack hearty, and so pot roast was an piece of cake decision. All the same, never having fabricated it before, I wanted to attempt this recipe since information technology promised two important things: moist + juicy. I layered the lesser of the crock pot with baby carrots, halved celery stalks and quartered red potatoes. And so, I combined the onion soup mix with i tin of beef broth and poured it over all. The 2.v lb roast was next. I rubbed it with minced fresh garlic, pepper and salt, so gave it a quick sear in olive oil. The roast and so joined the veggies in the crockpot, and the remaining olive oil + pan juices were poured over all. Our dinner cooked for 14 hours on depression, which in the end, would have been better at 12 hours. Nevertheless, it was succulent! Our veggies weren't mushy at all, the savory onion gustatory modality had thoroughly absorbed into everything, and in that location wasn't even a need to make gravy. Next time though, I'll make the potatoes separately. I idea they took away too much of the flavor, and will add lots more carrots + celery, and just a touch of water to end upwardly with more juice at the stop. This tasted much better the 2nd day as leftovers, but the meat hasn't lost whatever of its fall apartiness that my family loves. Would definitely brand this once more with a few tweaks.
07/fourteen/2014
My 87 year old Dad prefers hot meals for supper even in the summertime. I made this crockpot meal to avoid heating upwardly the business firm. Considering it was just him and me, I only used a two pound chuck roast. Next time I'm making a bigger 1. This was fabulous! Dad raved about it and be both wished nosotros had more leftovers. A very easy just absolutely succulent meal!
02/24/2014
Really loved the roast. Information technology was tender, juicy and cut with a fork. However, I made a mistake. I used both the dry out onion soup mix and vegetable goop. I should have used one or the other. Had I added extra salt, information technology would accept been way too salty. Side by side time I make this, and I absolutely WILL brand information technology again, I'll have intendance to picket the table salt content. I'd much rather add more to my plate than risk the dish existence over salty. And I did add extra carrots and potatoes. With a 3 pound chuck roast, I added at least 6 nice size potatoes and ii pounds of carrots. It was a terrific meal, served with nice hot biscuits.
12/15/2008
Very tasty roast. Quick notes: 1/2 the soup mix, it can brand information technology manner also salty (add maple syrup to cutting of need be), sear with steak seasoning, de-glaze with crimson wine and add to the tiresome cooker. Worcestershire works well (don't over do information technology though or you lot are back to the salty problem). Toss in a bay leaf and you are good to go. Have tried this a few times and am constantly tweaking, but follow other suggestions and add your own flair and you will be laughing all the way to the dinner table.
03/22/2011
This was my first pot roast Ever, and information technology was so easy! I've made it twice, and I've always used a roast that was less than 3 lbs. I used beef broth instead of h2o and threw in tons of extra veggies. I also took the advice of some of the other reviews and added Worcestershire sauce and used a Montreal Steak rub on the meat earlier browning. I've left this roast to melt for up to ten hours on depression, and it'southward turned out bang-up both times!
12/14/2008
add 1/4 cup red wine, 8 oz. mushrooms, iv cloves garlic, and 14 oz. tin beef goop. Thicken gravy with a 2 oz. brown roux.
10/25/2008
A very good bones deadening cooker roast. Afterwards reading reviews, I made a few changes...I inserted slivered garlic into roast; browned the roast on all sides, and then removed to the slow cooker. I browned an additional onion in the skillet, then deglazed the pan with 1 cup of red wine, instead of adding h2o. I added one teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, the soup mix, so poured information technology over the roast. I cooked on high for 4 hours, added the veggies, so cooked another 4 on low. My entire family loved it. Side by side fourth dimension, I'll brown sliced mushrooms to add together to the mix!
12/21/2011
Peachy elementary and tasty recipe!!
07/13/2010
I just have to say; why would anyone ruin a good tasting dish with that awful onion mix. Information technology's and so fake an salty and overpowering.
01/30/2012
This was melt in your mouth succulent! I used a 2.5 lb chuck and allow it go for 9-10 hours. It was falling apart and was perfect! I, like other reviewers used low sodium beef goop. I fabricated upwards my own rub and used that before browning it in the pan (Kosher common salt, fresh ground pepper, crimson pepper flakes, paprika, and garlic powder). I fabricated a gravy from the leavings in the crock pot and that was delicious also (Simply the juice/broth with a cornstarch/h2o mixture -- added some salt and pepper). I likewise used Yukon Gilded potatoes. Those or red potatoes are really best for this kind of thing. They hold together better than Russet. I just ate some leftovers for dejeuner and they were just as skilful equally final night. Mmmmmmm!
05/05/2013
Excellent recipe. I added several cloves of garlic, 2 cups red wine instead of 1 cup water, spiced 3.3 lb chuck with Montreal spice before browning information technology, added bay leaves, used the onion mix, doubled potatoes and carrots but did not add them until half way through. I too ran out of time so I cooked it for v+ hours on loftier. Everyone loved it!
11/27/2013
If its cooked too long the veges will be mushy and the roast will fall apart so much it's almost like soup! Adding the veges half manner through leaves a tastier pot roast that isn't mush! groovy flavor with the soup packet!
09/17/2006
Yum - what cracking condolement nutrient! I used a smaller roast (ii.5 lbs) then it was actually done in 5 hours. As the meat rested earlier carving, I strained the vegetables from the juice and stirred in a slurry of cornstarch on the stovetop. Afterwards humid a couple of minutes, I had a thick delicious gravy to pour over the meal. I highly recommend serving dinner rolls alongside to sop upward the gravy. Definitely a exercise-over recipe in this firm!
x/28/2008
I made this roast yesterday in my new crock pot and wow information technology was sooo skillful. I browned a 3.v lb chuck roast on the stove in a little extra virgin olive oil and common salt and pepper and and so wearisome cooked it with the rest of the ingredients for 5.five hours on depression and it fell apart. I used ruddy skinned potatoes which I call back next time I will put in an hour after everything else. Oh yeah, I substituted beef broth for the h2o. With the left over roast I shredded it and added Sweet Infant Rays bbq sauce and my hubby and I had it on hamburger buns tonight for dinner. Thank you for a bully recipe Marie!
01/22/2014
I've been using this recipe for years. I'yard a piddling surprised by the review that said it turned out tasteless. You can add your own touches to suit your taste, equally I take from time to time but you can't lose with this basic recipe. Information technology has always come out a winner.
11/thirteen/2010
This was my very first fourth dimension making a pot roast, and it turned out great! I rubbed the chuck roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning and garlic powder and browned information technology in olive oil, as others had suggested. I cooked it on HIGH for 5 hours, calculation the veggies in during the last hour (so they didn't plough to mush). Yummyyyy!!!
03/12/2009
FABULOUS!! It took simply xx minutes to prep! The merely things I inverse were (1) browned the meat earlier putting it in the crock pot and (two) I used a minor bag of infant carrots instead and (3) I seasoned the meat with salt, pepper, & garlic pulverisation before cooking. It cooked from 10am to seven:30pm and it was perfect. Just as good as my moms. I also made this recipe another fourth dimension and instead of using the onion soup mix I used McCormick'south Tiresome Cooker Savory Pot Roast Seasoning..came in a pouch like taco seasoning. But mix with i cup water and pour over the meat & veggies. Information technology was good too!!
12/21/2006
This potroast using the irksome cooker is great. Before I brown the roast, I commonly coat it with a sparse layer of flour. Information technology helps the browning and also adds to the gravy.
12/12/2005
Wonderful, simple condolement food. I used a 3.five lb chuck and pressed Montreal seasoning into the beef prior to browning. I added beef stock instead of h2o, a couple glugs of cerise and white wine (think french onion soup), and a tin of stewed tomatoes. I omited the potatoes, and served mashed on the side. I made a gravy of a couple cups of the broth. After 10 hours on low this was tender and delicious! Thank you!
02/09/2013
This is an absolute FAVORITE pot roast recipe--with a few modifications. The meat is always ridiculously tender, full of flavor, and tastes amazing! The changes we made are pretty simple-- I utilise 1 or 2 cans of beefiness broth instead of the 1c water (depending on the size of roast, 3.5lbs+ 2 cans, less than 3lbs 1can) I season the meat with either a montreal steak seasoning or some other seasonings we have handy (garlic table salt, onion powder, pepper, peradventure some paprika, whatever) and then sear in either a small-scale amount of balsamic vinegar or olive oil. I like lots of vegetables so nosotros double the vegetables and add half at the beginning (mushy vegetables every bit a effect) but the other half a few hours before the end so they are cooked just not mushy (this is why i add the actress broth since i have lots of actress veggies). I accept also used the bulky onion dry soup mix a few times but really couldn't tell much difference between normal onion soup mix--so i apply any is on manus.
x/13/2008
Very tender and flavorful. And so I would not stop up with mushy veggies I put onions on bottom of cooker, added meat(after browning), soup packet, 1 cup water and i loving cup beef broth and cooked that on high for two hours and depression for ane hour earlier adding potato chunks and babe carrots and cooking on depression some other three hours. Perfectly tender meat which was not falling apart and sliced nicely and the veggies were soft simply non mushy. Besides makes delicious gravy.
01/27/2010
Easy, easy, like shooting fish in a barrel! And the meat was then good. I seasoned the meat with Montreal Steak seasoning and dusted with flour (used a chuck roast). Started information technology cooking in the AM with just the liquid (I added just a niggling more than), soup mix, celery, onion and some garlic. I added the carrots, potatoes a couple hours before it was done. The meat brutal autonomously and had a nice flavor to information technology, the veggies were cooked well not mushy and the gravy was so yummy. Super and easy definitely a keeper!
01/xviii/2009
I've tried this recipe for the outset fourth dimension in December and information technology has get one of my favorite. Taking several advices from other Cooks who reviewed this recipe, I completely substitute water with beef broth, add the vegetables about 3/4 the manner after the meat, and instead of salt and pepper to gustation the meat, I employ a seasoned table salt.
09/12/2006
What a great recipe!! I played with it a piffling fleck & used other reviewer's ideas. I rubbed meat tenderizer, garlic powder, grade ground pepper & crushed red pepper on it earlier I browned information technology. Used a can of beef goop, package of onion soup mix & beefy onion soup mix, worcestershire sauce, fresh mushrooms, carrots, celery & potatoe. Kept adding a fiddling bit of salt, pepper & crushed ruby pepper as it cooked. Information technology was autumn autonomously-melt in your rima oris tender with a little kicking to it! Anybody loved information technology.
11/nineteen/2003
Neat recipe. For a beefier flavor, I used a cup of canned beef broth, instead of the water, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. This was a cracking dinner. I just threw it in the crockpot around ii, and since my roast was most half the size called for, it was washed around 7. Thanks for the recipe : )
03/11/2012
Family unit really liked it. Seasoned chuck roast with salt, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard and a little cayenne. Seared in skillet on all sides. Placed in crock pot for vi hours. Instead of water used chicken broth and added 2 bay leafs. Didn't add together onion or celery because we didn't have any and we didn't miss it. Added my potatoes two hours before information technology was done, carrots and fresh green beans 1.five hours earlier done and then handful of mushrooms 15 min before serving. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Veggies were not mush and had smashing flavor. Only enough left for husband next twenty-four hour period and he didn't mind eating it at all.
03/19/2007
This was sooooo good! I did rub the roast with seasonings and a piffling flour before I browned on both sides. I also used 1 cup beef broth and 1/two cup of h2o. I made a footling gravy out of pan drippings and added at last minute to thicken. Will definitely exist cooking this one a lot. Thanks.
05/07/2007
I fabricated this recipe this night and it was the best roast we have e'er had (so my hubby put information technology):) I read the reviews before cooking it and took the advice of some of the cooks. I used beefiness broth instead of h2o I added garlic and monteral steak seasoning. My roast was only about 2 1/two pounds merely I permit it cook for 11 hours and information technology was amend than ever earlier. The vegtables were falling apart forth with the meat. Thank you for the recipe and all the inputs too.
04/28/2013
I just want to say that yes, y'all need to utilise Chuck Roast, and other than any spices you want to add, all I have ever washed to have a perfect roast is to put the roast in the crockpot WITHOUT browning, and I don't add vegy's to the pot. This way, you don't need to add any liquid. I add together the onion soup mix and perchance some extra onions, but that'southward information technology. Very basic. I cook it on loftier for four to five hours. Washed! It just falls autonomously...love it, dear it, dearest it!
03/22/2010
I browned the roast 1st & so cooked the onions in the same pot before calculation to the crockpot. I used beef broth instead of the water & increased information technology to 2 cups. Absolutely delicious!
03/ten/2014
Awesome Marie! I had a vi pound chuck roast and then I adjusted the recipe for 12 servings. Used red potatoes, peel on, quartered. Everything was delicious. Had meat left over then accept cutting the meat into one inch cubes. Threw that into the crockpot with a mix of dry out onion soup, h2o and cream of mushroom soup. Will throw all that on top of flat egg noodles this evening. Walla, beef stroganoff! Thanks for sharing your recipe. Melt on!
01/22/2003
This was simple to set and very adept. My two teens LOVED information technology. The gravy is more "au jus" so it can exist sopped upwards with bread. For leftovers, I shreaded the meat and it was even amend. Instead of only using salt and pepper when I browned the meat, I used a season all type of seasoning and the flavor was full and rich. Definately a keeper.
02/18/2009
This was really good and I knew information technology would be. I did add together a cup of ruby vino and a can of aureate foam of mushroom for thicker gravy but I know information technology would accept been fine without it.
04/28/2011
succulent! i browned the meat as stated and that fabricated all the difference in the manner it came out (as opposed to how i used to ho-hum cook it before). cheers for the recipe
09/19/2000
This was the first time I have always made a roast in the slow cooker, and it was oh-then-easy! And, it was very skillful! I used infant carrots and new potatoes (quartered)and it was set to become in but a few minutes! My four twelvemonth sometime daughter loved it!
11/20/2013
This is the recipe from the Lipton soup mix box. Has been there forever! I don't similar the style the veggies are overcooked in this recipe. It is good only in that location are better. Good for novice cooks.

I've used this recipe many, many times, but have made several changes to it. I similar to coat a couple of sides of the roast with Grillmates steak seasoning (very peppery and has table salt), and I also splash some worcestershire sauce on it the night before and stick it in the fridge. The next morning, I sear the sides on the pan (with a little olive oil). I also use beef goop (or craven broth, whichever I happen to have at home) instead of water. I also use small red potatoes and put them in whole. I cut all of my veggies in large chunks (onion is quartered, carrots in big chunks, etc.) For herbs/seasoning, I also add together some thyme and rosemary and four-6 cloves of minced garlic. Delicious!

Followed the recipe as shown....just similar my mom used to make it :)

I fabricated this for dinner this past Dominicus. It was extremely easy and the meat was melt in your oral cavity moist. I felt however that information technology lacked some flavour. I think next time I will add some worcestershire sauce to it. I volition definitely brand this once again though, thank you.

This was wonderful pot roast! I used the Montreal Steak Seasoning and browned the meat ahead of time, and boy was that tasty! It added and so much flavor. And I recollect browning the meat ahead of time seals in some of the wet so that the roast is actress moist. I also used a tin of beef broth instead of water. Yum!

I impressed my parents with this one. We all loved it - very moist and tender - not overcooked. It was good for leftovers every bit well. I accept a smaller, older crock pot, so I had to cut the roast (about 4 lbs.) into two chunks, then pile the veggies around information technology. Subsequently the beginning meal, I cutting up more than veggies and slow-cooked them in the leftover juice then that I would have plenty to go with the rest of the roast - excellent leftovers. Also, one time you lot air-condition, the side by side day you can skim off the congealed fat to reduce fat content. I liked the recipe equally an piece of cake and tasty way to get some nutritional veggies and fiber - carrots, onions and celery.

Just fabulous!

Like shooting fish in a barrel and extremely delicious! I added extra carrots and potatoes as I have a large slow cooker. My married man loved this dish.

Followed the recipe with one exception. Earlier browning roast, I tied it. It cooked bang-up and after removing cording, sliced and plattered the meat and vegs. Served with buttered noodles for those who wanted them and also had mixed greenish Salad.

This was incredibly succulent. I used a iii-pound chuck roast (which was fatter than I expected) and browned it on all sides. Later I put the roast in the slow cooker, I looked at the bits in the pan and decided to deglaze it with a piffling (maybe 3-iv Tbsp) balsamic vinegar. Next I poked 4 peeled and smashed garlic cloves in the roast and poured the thickened balsamic on it. Then I put a large sliced white onion on superlative and sprinkled the onion soup mix over that. Finally, I poured the water over everything and put it in the refrigerator. Around midnight, I took it out of the refrigerator and put it in the cooker on low. When I woke up at 7, I added 3/four pound of baby carrots and another large white onion (sliced). After well-nigh some other hour, I noticed the roast was falling apart, so I took it out and covered it with foil while everything else cooked another 2 hours. Then I drained off the liquid and let it split (considering my roast was and then fatty). I skimmed off as much of the fat and put the roast, carrots, and onions back in the pot, followed by the skimmed liquid and left it on warm until information technology was set to serve. The roast was fork tender and full of flavor. I served it with rice, carrots, and onions. I look forward to eating the leftovers. I will make this once more! Thank you for sharing, Marie.

This was excellent.First pot roast I've ever fabricated, chose a marbley chuck roast every bit directed. Replaced the h2o with the beef broth. I also added garlic and a lilliputian extra onion soup for fear it wouldn't have enough flavor, but I didn't demand all that, the original recipe would have been totally fine. I recall next time i'll merely make it equally is with diluted beef broth. I live lone and so making large things similar this, I need to be certain I can consume it. And I did! Vegetables were perfectly done and yummy as well!
04/25/2014
Extremely Piece of cake and delicious I followed Lyrica42 recommendations and served upwardly with some fresh sourdough bread - perfect condolement food
11/16/2013
I've made this recipe a dozen times or more. It'due south perfect as is. No demand to modify anything!
03/31/2014
I fabricated this and used beef broth instead of the water and no celery considering I didn't take any. Information technology was he all-time roast I take ever made. My husband agreed and the kids ate information technology up and had second and 3rds. "Mom, this is the best dinner ever."
03/18/2014
I cooked the pot roast without the potatoes and carrots. I did put in the onion and took a few garlic cloves and put them in the roast. It is the all-time I accept ever made!
06/fifteen/2011
Delicious! I rubbed the roast with sea table salt, cracked pepper, marjoram, thyme and paprika, then dusted with flour earlier browning. Likewise, used near twice the corporeality of potatoes and carrots and added a fiddling more than water and 3 cloves of garlic. Merely needed to add a little salt. Might use a vegetable stock base adjacent time.
11/02/2008
I made this for dinner tonight and got rave reviews from my husband and stride son! The roast was tender and moist. I didn't use the onion soup, but used beefiness burgoo dissolved in water instead. Browned in skillet w/a tad salary grease blackness pepper, sea table salt, onion pulverisation before putting in dull cooker. Used the aluminum foil balls to support the roast in cooker. I used the juice from the roast to make gravy; cooked potatoes, carrots and celery stalks at the end of the cooking time for the roast. Yummmmmmm Yummmmmmm!
03/14/2010
YUM! I used this recipe for my first pot roast ever, and information technology was delish!! I added the potatoes halfway through cooking, per other reviewers' advice. Also used one can of beef broth and a trivial garlic; otherwise, I made the recipe as is. I cooked it on high for most vi hours and information technology was perfect! And one tip* I used the crockpot liner numberless that you purchase in the grocery store near the ziplock baggies, and it fabricated make clean up Then much easier! Didn't modify the sense of taste or compromise the flavor a bit! I will exist making this recipe for years to come.
x/17/2013
This recipe was very easy to follow and it turned out great. I didn't have 8 hours and then I put information technology on high for 6 hours and information technology was delish. I'm sure it would have been very skilful at 8 to x on the low setting. I didn't chop up the carrots or onion. I simply made big huge chunks because I was afraid they would be mushy if I cut them to small they turned out amazing. I put whole red potatoes on the top of all of it and they were but wonderful as well. I will CERTAINLY do this recipe over again. Information technology's piece of cake to make and has only a few basic ingredients which was a big plus. I don't similar having to become to the grocery to buy some expensive condiment or spice that I volition never use over again. Cheers for a wonderful meal.
01/twenty/2015
And then tasty! Turns out perfect every time! I like using cherry potatoes instead of russet, and those don't get overcooked. Or sometimes I just leave the potatoes out and make mashed potatoes instead. Just utilise half a packet of the mix. Ane is too much! I utilise beef goop instead of water if I have information technology, I like it much more that way. Don't use broth and a whole packet- it will be manner too salty!
02/16/2014
Succulent!
02/07/2009
No need to brown the roast (I accept done it both means). I used my medium size crock pot due west/ a 3# boneless Chuck Roast, rubbed information technology with (Red Robin Seasoning &) sprinkled w/ Common salt & Pepper. Put 1/2 packet of Onion Soup Mix on it, poured 1 cup hot water, added 3 lg potatoes & as many babe carrots I could still allowing i-2" clearance from top of crock every bit it is IMPORTANT y'all don't overfill your crock pot for proper cooking. (Makers' suggest on filling it 75% full.) I cooked on Loftier for five.five hours and then turned it downward to Low for the last 2 hours.... ~Wonderful Aroma ....TO DIE FOR!! 2ND-TIME-NOTES: Used BEEF Broth instead of water (near ii cups), did not brown roast, used bag of fingerling potatoes & cooked on LOW for ten 1/ii Hours. YUMMY!
04/22/2014
Followed the recipe but did utilize Montreal Steak Seasoning & added ii cloves of garlic. It was very good but seemed to be missing something to requite information technology a footling more than flavour. Will use this again. Thank you!
12/17/2008
My first pot roast! It came out a lilliputian tough i cooked on loftier for 4hrs, my mom-in-law says if on high i should take cooked for 3hrs just overall the taste was very good, anybody ate it all. cheers for a keen recipe, def will brand again.
09/24/2013
This is a great recipe! With a few modifications of course. I like to braise my roast in some olive oil. I had a 3.5lb roast. I added two cups of beef broth to the mix (I dear the "Amend than Bouillon" brand, only I call up the secret to the liquid is that I likewise similar to add a can of beer to it. Any beer in the fridge, doesn't really matter. I personally just used a Bud Low-cal. Equally per other reviewers, I added my potatoes, onion and carrots in at the half manner point and saw no apply cutting up the carrots as they're small enough and easily cook in the time that's left.
07/xiii/2010
This is pretty much the manner I take always made pot roast. Only difference is that I don't always dark-brown information technology first. Only I do put salt, pepper and flour all over the roast. This fashion, it makes it'due south own gravy and is never lumpy. I use dissimilar seasonings - depending what I have on hand. I accept used steak seasoning, seasoned table salt, garlic salt, etc. They all piece of work fine and are a matter of taste. I use beef broth and beefy onion soup. For veggies I use potatoes (for average size potatoes, I quarter them, for large potatoes I cutting them into 6 or seven pieces), 2 average size onions quartered and carrots (baby or regular). I use lots of potatoes because DH and sons dearest them this way. This along with some rolls is one of our favorite dinners. I cook on depression in the crock pot for about 10 hours while I am at work. The house smells sooooo gooooood when we come home!
09/29/2010
I gave this 4 stars because I made some changes. First, I only used a 2 lb roast. I followed the communication of others and rubbed Montreal Steak Seasoning on it and browned it in a cast atomic number 26 skillet. I likewise substituted 1 cup beef broth for the water. When I came domicile from work, the house smelled incredible! Baked some crescent rolls and DH and were in heaven!
11/16/2010
I've made this pot roast 2 Sundays in a row. And I will probably continue making it every Sunday. SO, SO, GOOD. I used a boneless chuck roast. Vegetables and meat washed to perfection. So easy, and tasted and so smashing. Thank you for a groovy recipe that I will utilize again and over again.
05/19/2011
Tasty and tender. I seasoned with lots of Montreal Seasoning only I didn't retrieve it was necessary to use beef broth as some suggested, and then I used 3/4 c. water and 1/4 c. red wine, and I will exercise the same adjacent time. I left the peel on my small reddish whole potatoes and cutting the carrots into largish chunks, and they were but right afterward cooking all twenty-four hours on low. I did go out out the celery and next time volition add more carrots. Thanks!

I didn't get to effort this but my boyfriend RAVED about it. He said it was the best repast I take fabricated- which saddens me slightly since it was and then piece of cake to gear up. I took a few other annotate's suggestions and added some Worchestire- and also browned the meat with garlic powder, McCormick steak seasoning, salt and pepper. And so threw everything into the crockpot and let it melt for the viii hours. Overall rating (from the swain)= Astonishing. Definitely a keeper.
02/19/2014
acceptable.
10/xviii/2011
And so yummy! The meat falls apart only like a perfec pot roast should. I followed other'southward advice and used Montreal Steak seasoning and am glad I did. I likewise subbed beef goop for the water. There is plenty juice in the pot after cooking to brand gravy. Great recipe!
11/17/2010
Mine turned out peachy. The merely reason I requite iv stars is because I inverse it slightly. Instead of water I used beef broth, and I added a larger multifariousness of veggies. I took a little of the broth when information technology was done and mixed in a little flour to brand gravy. The roast was autumn apart perfect and the gravy was awesome. I will make it once more with those minor changes.
10/02/2011
Instead of the onion soup mix, I added 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce to the broth and inserted 1 bay leaf into the roast, discarding the bay leaf earlier serving the roast. IMHO, the roast was even better- without those pesky onion bits from the soup mix in the broth.
08/27/2013
Will try this recipe this week! If the meat is banal, try using a knife to make holes all over the roast and stuff with a whole clove of garlic in each forth with salt, pepper and any other dry seasoning you may like. trust me the garlic gives great flavor!
ten/17/2010
I loved the flavor of this pot roast! I followed the recipe completely other than using beef broth instead of water to be able to make delicious gravy at the cease. I felt that 8 hours was the perfect time for this. Others have said to wait to add together the vegtables until half manner through, but I don't call back they would have been as expert if I would have washed that. I used whole baby carrots, onions cut into fourths, and largely cubed russet potatoes. I thought they were the perfect texture with having simmered the unabridged time. Just a very footling crisis only soft enough to cook in your mouth. I'd recommend calculation them at the beginning if you like your veggies soft!
01/18/2008
FABULOUS!!! I doctored this upwardly a bit by adding four cloves of chopped garlic to the tiresome cooker after the meat, veggies and soup mix were in. I also used salt, pepper and flavour-all on the meat when I browned information technology in the skillet. I take a 5 quart ho-hum cooker and used 5 pounds of chuck roast, six small/medium red potatoes, a small pocketbook of babe carrots, 3 celery stalks, nigh a 1/two cup chopped onions and the garlic, . My tiresome cooker was FULL! I call up the onion soup mix is what makes this sooooo proficient! I let is cook on depression for 8 hours, only opened the tiresome cooker lid twice - and it came out FABULOUS!!! My family LOVED it and my hubby even said this is better than any he'southward had in a restaurant before. This is my new favorite slow cooker recipe and will exist made many more times!! :)
09/nineteen/2008
THE BEST EVER!!!!!! The meat was so ridiculously tender!!! It literally melted in your mouth! I did marinate my meat overnight(in italian dressing) and I also took the advice of previous reviewers with a few other changes: dissolve 2 beef boullion cubes in the water before adding it in (you could use one tin of beef broth for the same event), and add 3 cloves of garlic, chopped equally well. I also added one tsp cayenne pepper to give it some kick. When it was washed, I could barely keep my young man out of the pot long enough to actually serve it up! Oh I can't say plenty about this roast- information technology was THAT practiced! I volition be reusing this recipe many many more times. Cheers sooo much Marie!
11/02/2008
Exactly what yous think of when you call up of pot roast. Just perfect! I lightly floured mine then browned information technology - this way it fabricated its own gravy; no demand to thicken the juices.
05/23/2010
Didn't need Any liquid in my tedious cooker for perfection. Cooked ix hours and had plenty of liquid when done. Don't add together carrots or potatoes until last hour or they'll go mushy. I like turnips done this style.
01/thirteen/2010
This was fantastic! Based on the other reviews, dipped the meat in a flour and flavour mixture before browning. One affair I like about the recipe is that it is a everything but the kitchen sink equally far as seasoning goes. Any I had, I threw in to the flour mixture. I assembled everything the night before and threw information technology in the fridge. I cooked on high for an hour equally soon as I got up in the morning and and then switched information technology to low and cooked from 8-6. The meat and vegetables were out of this world. The potatoes were soft merely non mushy but next fourth dimension, I might omit them and serve over mashed potatoes. Volition definitely make again.
